Monday evening I drove out to Hager City, WI to photograph this stunning mom to be and her husband on her parent’s beautiful property. There were so many great options there for outdoor photography and I loved the beautiful evening light. They are waiting patiently for their little suprise baby. I can’t wait until June to meet their sweet little bundle and find out if they have a son or daughter! Here are a few of my favorites from that evening.

This is Zahra, my very own little 2 year old sweetie. I went out yesterday to scope out the location for Saturday’s spring mini sessions, so I brought Zahra with me so I could do a little photo shoot with her. It’s rare to have one on one time together without the other kids, so it was fun to play with her and spend a little time with my little girl. Here’s the result of our morning together. Enjoy! My girls | Childrens outdoor photography in Cottage Grove, MN

These were taken a couple weeks ago, but I just realized I never shared them here! When the trees were blossoming beautiful on a late April evening, I decided to bring my girls out to a local tree farm for a little photo shoot. As a photographer, I’ve noticed it’s SO much more difficult to photograph my own children together than it is to photograph someone else’s children. I think since I’m Mom, they’re more comfortable and free to act out, whereas other kids see me as an authority figure, like they would a teacher, and are more likely to follow directions. It probably also has something to do with the fact that my kids already know my tricks for getting smiles and laughs, and while it still works on them individually, when I get them together something just happens and they don’t think I’m interesting enough to look at. Instead they want to run away, look away, scowl at me, etc. I think I got a few decent ones of them together, but I’m still looking for that money shot, the one that’s going to grace my wall on canvas for years to come. I’m determined to get it this summer, so stay tuned – it’s coming! For now, here are some highlights from our little spring photo session.

Meet newborn Emmett! He’s my latest Baby Milestones baby, which means I get to see him again in 6 months and 1 year! I can’t wait! He was such a little sweetheart yesterday when he came out to the studio for his newborn portraits. He slept pretty much the whole time, letting me move him around into these cute positions, while also capturing the simple moments. I adore this little man and am looking forward to this fall when I get to work with him again!

I had a great time working with her, and she was a little angel, sleeping through most of the session, waking briefly to give me a little yawn before drifting back to sleep. I recently had the pleasure of photographing this beautiful soon to be mother of two for her maternity portraits at her home and outdoors, along with her little boy and husband. Being two, the big brother to be wasn’t really interested in following instructions, so we improvised! The sweet expressions and personality I was able to capture from him were better than anything I could have asked him to do. Enjoy!

Lily – age 7 | Minnesota child photographer

Last Friday, I spent the evening at Minnehaha Falls in Minneapolis with little Lily and her parents for her 7 year birthday portraits. Lily is such a spunky little girl, which made it extra fun to work with her! We joked and laughed the whole time, she jumped around and giggled, got a little goofy, and struck cute and sometimes funny poses. She reminds me of my own almost 7 year old daughter in her outgoing personality. We spent a good hour and a half photographing her and exploring the park. After I knew we had a great selection of photographs for her, I suggest we grab an ice cream cone and get a few final images of her gobbling up her dessert. What better way to document age 7 than with a Dairy Queen crunch cone? Here’s the adorable Lily! Isn’t she just a doll?
